"We're in pop paradis" - SUMMER XS Reading (June 2005) (extracts)

By Xenia Poole

“…but it was Ben Adams that everyone wanted to see. And after meeting the charming, blue-eyed singer, Weekender can only concur with the crowd.

The former A1 star is the typical boy-next-door that had even the mothers in the audience batting their eyelids. "It's really good to be back, but it's kind of strange as well," said the chatty 23-year-old. "I haven't been to a festival really for about four or five years and none of the crowd have really heard my new material, so I was really blown away by their reaction."

By new material, Ben is speaking about his debut single, Sorry, which is being played on every medium possible at the moment, and songs from his new album, due to be released later in the year. "I'm actually going to be doing all the road shows," he admits. "So I won't be taking a break for a long time now!"

Ben's history is already well-documented. From singing for the Pope in a children's choir at the age of 10, and become a teen pop idol with A1 and now partying with Har Mar Superstar, Ben has accomplished a huge amount - and done it well. "No, I don't really mind being up on stage on my own," says Ben, on what it's like performing without the rest of A1. "I've got a really good band, though, so I don't feel lonely up there!"

Always up for a bit of gossip, Weekender decides to probe him for a bit of information and scandal on what he thinks of the rest of the line-up. "I really want to see all of them!" says the good-natured lad. "One of my best friends, Craig [David] is playing, though, so I'm definitely sticking around to see him."
